Sonendo Celebrates One Million GentleWave® Procedures; Further Solidifies Its Position in Elevating the Patient Experience for Root Canal Treatment

December 6, 2022

This Important Milestone Highlights Sonendo’s Continued Commitment to Saving Teeth and Improving Lives

Sonendo, Inc. (NYSE: SONX), a leading dental technology company and developer of the GentleWave® System, today announced that more than one million patients have now been treated with the GentleWave Procedure since the system entered the commercial market. Redefining the standard of care for root canal therapy, the GentleWave Procedure offers a minimally invasive process that preserves tooth structure and promotes fast healing. A testament to the continued adoption and utilization of the GentleWave System, this latest milestone demonstrates doctors’ and patients’ growing preferences for modern root canal treatment and technology that puts the patient experience first.

In honor of this milestone, select GentleWave patients who previously received the procedure returned to their endodontist, Dr. Tadros M Tadros with Hudson Endodontics in Hudson, NH, to share their positive experiences. As an avid user of the GentleWave System since 2020, Dr. Tadros has treated more than 1,100 patients with the GentleWave Procedure to date.

“I am honored to be a part of the community of GentleWave doctors who have together treated more than one million patients. The GentleWave System has completely transformed my practice since implementation, and my patients can't stop talking about how the GentleWave Procedure provided them with an experience that has altered their expectations of root canal treatment,” said Dr. Tadros. “The difference the GentleWave System has made for my patients and my practice is something that I am incredibly proud of, and I look forward to continuing my journey with this technology in the months and years to come."

According to a recent survey conducted by Sonendo, more than 67% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement: “I am terrified of getting a root canal procedure.” 77% said that they would rather spend the night in the airport than undergo root canal treatment and more than 80% said that the idea of root canal treatment provoked a sense of fear. Unsurprisingly, the idea of intense pain and a slow healing process can cause some patients to avoid or postpone treatment – thereby compromising their health. However, results from an ongoing clinical trial sponsored by Sonendo indicate that 99.5% of patients experienced no pain during the GentleWave Procedure with CleanFlow™ Technology. In addition, once educated on the benefits of the GentleWave Procedure, the vast majority of prospective patients indicated that they would actively seek out a GentleWave Doctor.

“It's exciting for me to be a part of the GentleWave community because this procedure completely altered my previous notions of root canal treatment,” said Keri O of Hudson, NH, a patient of Dr. Tadros. “To my surprise, the entire experience was significantly less painful and overall easier than I expected. Not just during the treatment, but in the days following the procedure as well. I would certainly recommend Dr. Tadros and the GentleWave Procedure to my friends and family – and let them know that there's nothing to be afraid of or nervous about. Saving my natural tooth is a game changer for me and means an overall improvement to my well-being.”

This important milestone comes shortly after Sonendo announced the release of its next generation GentleWave G4 System. With Sonendo's patented technology at its core, the G4 System is designed for an optimized doctor and patient experience with a refined, simplified workflow – all while delivering an enhanced level of clean that is only available with GentleWave Technology.

“With a continued commitment to elevating patient care and practice workflow through technological innovation, we are proud of reaching this major milestone,” said Bjarne Bergheim, president and CEO of Sonendo. “Our patients are at the core of everything we do, and we are excited to continue on our growth trajectory. It’s important to recognize that it’s the patient experience we are all ultimately trying to elevate, and we are at the forefront of this by supporting our doctors and enabling incredible outcomes for our patients.”

About Sonendo

Sonendo is a commercial-stage medical technology company focused on saving teeth from tooth decay, the most prevalent chronic disease globally. Sonendo develops and manufactures the GentleWave® System, an innovative technology platform designed to treat tooth decay by cleaning and disinfecting the microscopic spaces within teeth without the need to remove tooth structure. The system utilizes a proprietary mechanism of action, which combines procedure fluid optimization, broad-spectrum acoustic energy and advanced fluid dynamics, to debride and disinfect deep regions of the complex root canal system in a less invasive procedure that preserves tooth structure. The clinical benefits of the GentleWave System when compared to conventional methods of root canal therapy include improved clinical outcomes, such as superior cleaning that is independent of root canal complexity and tooth anatomy, high and rapid rates of healing and minimal to no post-operative pain. In addition, the GentleWave System can improve the workflow and economics of dental practices. Sonendo is also the parent company of TDO® Software, the developer of widely used endodontic practice management software solutions, designed to simplify practice workflow. TDO Software integrates practice management, imaging, referral reporting and CBCT imaging, and offers built-in communication with the GentleWave System.
